3.73 Vs. 4.10
« on: April 17, 2009, 10:39:00 AM »
I figured I would get everyone's opinion. Which gears should I get? the car is an auto and will hopefully be manual one day. I don't do to much highway driving.......

Depending on when it'll be a manual, 3.73... Otherwise 4.10. The 4.10 seem to be really good for the auto's, but with a manual you apparently run a good risk or regularly roasting your tires. So they recommend 3.73's for the manual version... (only telling what I've been told, I have my stock 3.27 in there :) And no plans to change it really)

4.1s = automatically suggested for Automatic trannys...
4.1s also do well with manual trannys, but it doesnt steet as well... i speek from experience.

It will be a while before I change the trans, If I could find some used 4.10's then I guess it wouldn't be so bad

yea... geras kinda float around too... you'll run into someone at a swap meet "oh yea, i got 4.10s in my garage at home..."

unless you're having diffy/rear end problems there's no real reason to pay full price for gears... just wait in the bushes until some pop up. lol.

chatter/ from new gears?   ... as long as they are installed correctly you shouldnt hear anything from a gear swap... unless you get like, 5.30s, or something like that...  4.10s you wont hear a thing unless it wasnt installed correctly...

As stated, 4.10s auto, but for a manual 3.73s or 3.55s are a good gear choice.

Coming from personal experience, I say 4.10's. I have a 97 GT manual and I installed 4.10's and its been the best mod I have done. I love them!!!!!!
Drive it like you stole it no matter how slow it is! LOL

woot, like i said in my thread, should also save for a T-5 tranny swap man. can find used ones and summit builds a rebuild kit for them for like 200 i think. might seem like alot but i think it would be well worth it!

Try using those gears with my setup, you'd never be able to use first, hell I have 3.55s and first gear is already a b*tch, that's why I don't recommend 4.10s on a manual. They're decent for a stock to mild 5.0, but once you get aggressive and add that in with the already steep 1rst gear ratio the T-5 has, it gets very hard to properly control the car, even under normal driving. I know several people that had to pull their 4.10s out their stang because they were actually slower in the 1/4 mile, even with slicks, cause they could no longer properly hook up.
