7.5 TO 8.8 SWAP
« on: February 27, 2009, 02:42:13 PM »
Anybody know what all goes into swaping a 8.8 rear in for a 7.5 on a 98 auto if you are getting the 8.8 from a 98 gt auto I know I need a speedo gear because the rear I found has 3.27s and I have 2.73s but I can get that from steeda.com. From what I understand it's just a simple take off and slap the new one on

Yeah it's pretty straight forward. If I were you when you do it, it would be a good time to put a strong quality set of LCAs and UCAs otherwise you'll have to get some quad shock mounts(im not sure if the 98 gts mount is removeble) and quad shocks on also replacing the bushings on the UCA mounting position on the pumpkin.

You can take a look at stangsuspension.com's brand control arms they seem pretty decent for uppers and lowers.

Ok so the rear that I am looking at is from a 97 and it's listed as 94-97. Is there any difference between the 98 and the 97 rear axle? I have seen that when it comes to the UCAs some sites say that 98s need to get the adjustable ones because the non adjustable won't fit whats the deal with 98 what did ford do different :dontknow:

When I had aftermarket UCAs for my rear I didn't have adjustables or 98 specific.

you guys need to by some books and do some research use a rear end out of a 1996-98 ford explorer 4x4. these things have 31 spline axles a semi locker, and 3.73 or 4.10 gears. way better than buying a rear end and then all the up grades
