Couple of idea's?

* MySpace

* FaceBook

* Yahoo Groups

* Post up a notice in the newsgroups relating to the Mustang: http://groups.google.nl/groups/dir?q=mustang&hl=nl%3Fie

* Sig posting with a link to this site under it

* Notice postings on other forums (tho this is frowned upon on some forums - Careful with this action).

* Toss a notice of the site to various registries out there and see about having them post up a link-back

* Sig cards or flyers to hand out at meetings (stick 'm under the windshieldwipers)

* Properly drop the site to Google so it pops up high in the list on global queries

* Create a links section to link to partnersites (which you can highlight, enticing people to become a partner site), link back sites (where you can list sites that have a link back to your site), and add a 'global links' where you can drop a couple of diverse links in that don't fall in the previous two categories. Then pull the attention of the sites to your site to add to their links section. A 'Shops' part for Mustang shops (AM and DM for instance) might work out there too. Try and add some prioritizing in it so you can control the noticability of each site. If you don't have a link back, you go down at the bottom of the list. if you do link back, you go higher. Dealers go above linked back users, and below partner sites. Sponsors of the site come above that... Something like that.

* Get some sort of decal under the windshield at meetings that promote the site

* If there's a few of the SN95 members in the same area, organize a small meeting. Post that up on the various calenders out there. Make sure there is a turnout from the site. Don't expect too much of it, but stick to what you advertise.

* Start a map on FRAPPR (the site is hard to understand and harder to get to work properly) but you get a map of members, aswell as a ticker-tape (scrolling bunch) of the uploaded photo's you can post on the main page - See http://www.silvermustangs.com/home.html as an example

* Keep the site new and refreshing. People will want to come back and spend time here

* Eventually see about a Mustang of the Month deal or something. Voting people are usually returning people

* Keep the forum fun with interesting topics. Once enough people drop by, it'll become pretty much self-sustaining

* But probably the best means to get this site kickstarted is go to another forum, and run 5 search queries on the last year of posts... Search for 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998. Limit the search query to the introduction posts. Open all results, and read the introduction to see if it does concern a valid model for this forum, and then proceed to abuse the PM system. Be sure to use some open invitation to make your site noted. That way nobody can accuse you of trying to 'steal' people away. All you want to do is get the site's name out there. Keep in mind people might already know of it, or having been attended to it a different way. And it's all to well possible people see your PM, toss it out and not get back to the site at all.

As with everything: keep in mind: don't expect results, just hope you get them :)

How's that for a few ideas?

Being small always has that kind of problem... Once you get past a certain point people will just sign up on their own. Then again, they might just choose to browse the forum. No way to know that unless there's some monitoring tool installed on the site...

Yeah you can only track ips in the admin panel and in the "who's online" you can see where they are looking. nothing sophisticated.
